Barrow Raiders half-back Alex Bishop has signed a contract extension with the club ahead of the 2027 season.
Bishop arrived from Keighley Cougars ahead of the 2025 season, making 23 appearances during his debut year.
He went on to feature a further 26 times during the 2026 campaign, scoring six tries and earning two Player of the Month awards.
The grandson of legendary dummy-half Tommy Bishop, who made 39 appearances for Barrow in the 1960s and briefly managed the club in 1985, Bishop is creating a name for himself at the Raiders in his own right and has now agreed to remain with the club for a further 12 months.
On the new deal, the 32-year-old said: “I’ve had a really good couple of seasons here, and I’ve loved playing with this group of lads. That made the decision to stay at the club an easy one.
“We’ve got a great group, and hopefully we can build on what we’ve achieved, have another strong season and go one step further in the play-offs in 2027.”
Barrow Raiders director of rugby Andy Gaffney said: “Bish has demonstrated a versatility which any modern squad needs.
“His performances have come in the halves, at hooker or off the bench, but regardless of the position, Bish has demonstrated an understanding of the game that is hard to find.
“He reads the play like few others at this level, and when deciding who to retain for next season, Bish was near the top of the list.
“He drives standards in training and is a great bloke to have around the group, which is why the decision to offer him terms for 2027 was an easy one.”
