Barrow Raiders hooker Josh Wood has signed a new two-year deal which will keep him at the club until the end of the 2028 season.

Wood arrived in October 2021 ahead of the club’s return to the Betfred Championship.

He has gone on to spend many successful seasons in Barrow colours, making 129 appearances to date.

Wood has forged a reputation over the years for his all-action style of play, bringing strong defence and equally direct attack around the ruck.

The 30-year-old remains a pivotal member of our squad, and the new deal reinforces the belief that Wood can help the club to even greater success in 2027.

He follows captain Ryan Johnston in agreeing terms for the next two seasons.

“I am delighted to extend my stay at the club for another two years,” Wood said.

“While I was fortunate enough to have interest and options from another big club, my heart is firmly here. From my team-mates and the coaching staff to the fans, everyone has made my time here enjoyable.

“We have started building something good together, I am genuinely happy here, and I can’t wait to see what we can achieve over the next two seasons.”

Barrow Raiders director of rugby Andy Gaffney said: “One of the standout hookers in the division, Josh committing to the Raiders is a real boost for the club.

“Despite interest from elsewhere, Josh has shown a real belief in what we are trying to do here, and the part he can play in turning that vision into reality.

“I’m sure our supporters will be delighted by this news, as it shows a clear focus on retaining key figures within our playing group.”
