Barrow Raiders come out on top in Cumbrian derby

Barrow Raiders fought through harsh weather conditions and a tough opposition to come out on top with a 4-18 victory against Cumbrian rivals Whitehaven.

In true Cumbrian fashion, the heavens opened with an unrelenting barrage of rain, wind and cold. Nevertheless, this didn’t stop 1,795 fans from turning up to the LEL Arena for a battle between the two Cumbrian teams.

A dominant first-half display saw the Raiders keep Whitehaven scoreless and head into half-time with an 0-18 lead, albeit down to 12-men as Jarrad Stack was sent to the sin bin right on the hooter, before an almost immaculate second-half defensive display, limiting the home team to just one try, which wasn’t converted by Whitehaven.

Dan Toal, Ryan Shaw and Hakim Miloudi got on the scoresheet for the Raiders, with Holliday scoring for the home team.

Paul Crarey’s men are back in action at home next Sunday as they take on Newcastle. Buy your tickets for the encounter here.
