Amy Carruthers has been unveiled as Barrow Raiders Ladies Under 19s head coach Jodie Litherland’s first signing in charge of the newly-formed team.
Carruthers, who hails from Barrow, joins the club ahead of the 2025 season.
She arrives with a wealth of experience across a range of sports, including rugby union, netball and athletics.
Identified as a player with potential during her school days, Carruthers has recently developed an interest in rugby league and will now be given the opportunity to represent her hometown club.
The Under 19s is a new venture which will help solidify the pathway from junior rugby through to the Raiders Ladies first team.
They will be coached by former club captain Litherland, who decided to hang up her boots following the conclusion of the 2024 season having led the Raiders Ladies to a credible fifth-place finish during their debut season in Group 1 of the Betfred Women’s Super League.
With a strong female pathway which already includes the club’s Raider Girls programme and the RFL-approved “Pathway to Performance” scheme, it is hoped that the club can build a team capable of competing in the Women’s Super League Under 19s competition in the coming years.
Carruthers and other signings for the Under 19s will train with the Raiders Ladies first team this season, with some also set to be given an opportunity to feature in competitive matches as part of their development.
“I’m excited to make my first signing for the Under 19s,” head coach Jodie Litherland said.
“From what we’ve seen of Amy so far, she is an exciting prospect with a background across multiple sports and has shown signs of transferring her athleticism and skill into rugby league.
“I am excited to help her learn and grow, and hopefully she will go on to become a talented player for Barrow in the Women’s Super League.”
