Barrow Raiders must have confidence in their own abilities in order to compete with the top sides in the Betfred Championship, according to centre Curtis Teare.
The Raiders will look to maintain their unbeaten home start to the season this Sunday against Oldham, who are widely tipped to enjoy a successful campaign after an eye-catching recruitment drive during the off-season.
The two sides met in the Betfred Challenge Cup in early February, with Oldham running out impressive 42-4 winners at Boundary Park.
On the challenge ahead, Teare said: “It was a tough outing last time out against Oldham. We learned a few things as a playing group, and hopefully we can write those wrongs on Sunday by putting in a good performance and coming away with the two points.
“The main message heading into Round 3 is to focus on ourselves as individuals and as a team, by staying confident in our abilities and putting the best version of ourselves forward.”
The Raiders return to league action off the back of a battling 1895 Cup victory over new boys Goole Vikings – a result which set up another trip to Oldham in the quarter-finals of the competition.
Teare found himself on the scoresheet twice during last week’s 34-16 win at the Victoria Pleasure Ground and says the manner of the Raiders’ performance on the road was as important as the result itself.
“It really felt like we were always in control of the game, to be honest,” he added.
“Credit to Goole – they’re a real tough and gritty side and kept battling right to the end.
“It’s always good to get over for a couple of tries on a personal level, but the team performance is much more important and hopefully we can keep building from here.”
