Barrow Raiders’ hugely successful Junior Education Training Scheme (JETS) programme will make its return this September.

For the past eight years, the JETS programme has successfully taken place at the Northern Competitions Stadium.

JETS is an initiative which sees head coach Paul Crarey and his team provide an invite to amateur coaches in the area to gain insight and benefit from their professional coaching expertise.

Coaches from ARLFC teams in the area – Barrow Island, Millom, Askam, Ulverston, Dalton, Roose Pioneers, Hindpool, Walney and Marsh Hornets – will be invited to the ‘Coach the Coaches’ sessions, offered free of charge to all part-time coaches on Monday 9 September.

In the weeks immediately following this, we will then open the stadium to all the children from the area, who are either from their corresponding amateur rugby league teams or from schools and colleges throughout Furness and Cumbria. The children do not need to be affiliated to a community club.

During these sessions, the coaches will implement what they have learnt in Week 1, with Paul Crarey overseeing the whole evening.

These sessions, from 6-7pm, are for U11s through to players in school Year 10, plus Year 11s who want to develop their skills.

Complementing the JETS sessions, from 7pm is training for 16-18 year olds to put themselves forward for a place in the Furness Raiders squad.

A number of well-known Raiders first team players past and present have progressed through this conveyor belt rugby league JETS initiative, including Luke Broadbent, Rio Corkill, Ryan Johnston, Jake Carter, Ellis Archer and Charlie Emslie.

Some found the JETS to be a pathway to Super League teams, whilst others were picked up for the Raiders’ first team squad.
