Barrow Raiders returned to winning ways in the Betfred Championship, battling past Batley Bulldogs 24-14 at the Northern Competitions Stadium.
Paul Crarey’s side found the perfect response to last week’s heavy defeat at Sheffield Eagles, scoring 12 unanswered points in the second half to pick up just their third league win of the season.
Birthday boy Luke Cresswell opened the score inside five minutes but the visitors were quick to respond, Dale Morton crashing over to make it 6-6.
Matt Costello and Adam Gledhill exchanges tries – the Raiders man winning the race to Brad Walker’s high kick on tackle five before fighting off defenders to score – before the Bulldogs edged themselves ahead at half-time thanks to a Josh Woods penalty goal.
Early into the second half, James Greenwood restored the Raiders’ lead, latching onto the end of another dangerous kick from Walker.
The game remained into the balance heading into the final 10 minutes, until Razor Silva fended off three defenders to touch down and give the Raiders some breathing space.
Paul Crarey’s side will now enjoy a weekend off due to the semi-finals of the 1895 Cup, before returning to action with a trip to the South of France to face Toulouse Olympique on Saturday 18 May. Tickets for that fixture can be purchased here.
